CONNECTED & COOPERATIVE NAVIGATION IN AND OUT OF THE CITY

This C-ITS service applies to both traffic management centres and road users. It is intended to enable road users to navigate in and out of a city in a connected and cooperative manner with the aim of achieving a consistent distribution of traffic strategies at the interface between urban and interurban areas.

This service is being tested in Germany by the Hessen/Kassel pilot project within the framework of C-ROADS Germany - Urban Nodes. The implementation of ew variable message signs (VMS) for network control at several locations at motorways near the city of Kassel is necessary for the coordination of the displayed route recommendations. The content of the VMS is based on traffic management strategies of the road authorities of the city of Kassel and Hessen Mobil.

The information and navigation transmission to the road users is to take place via ETSI ITS G5. In addition, a smartphone app already developed is to be expanded as a further display option.
