The development and testing of C-ITS services is already part of a test field of the project application platform for intelligent mobility (AIM) in Niedersachsen. Currently the test field is located in the urban area of the city of Brunswick. Within the next year it will be enlarged and transferred under the lead of the Ministry for Economy, Labour and Transport of Niedersachsen and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to federal roads and motorways between Hanover, Brunswick and Wolfsburg.

As the figure shows, the planned activities encompass an A2 motorway section and focus on three tasks. First the realisation of tools and methods supporting the commissioning, operation and maintenance to overcome possible technical or organisational barriers in C-ITS infrastructure deployment activities. Second the implementation of the three services “Slow or stationary vehicle warning”, “In-vehicle signage” and “Probe vehicle data” to collect experiences of deployment of C-ITS services and to demonstrate the long-term viability and scalability. Last the analysis of the integration of existing Traffic Management Centres (TMC) and demonstrating a possible interaction with the TMC based on the three services. This should lead to a better understanding of the additional benefits TMC and road operators can gain by deploying and using the services.
